In one of the most exciting midterm elections in history, Americans now have a differently disposed People’s House. Several states have new, opposition Governors. The U.S. Senate remains in the hands of the Democrats–barely.
Representative John Boehner, (R) Ohio, stands to become the next Speaker of the House, dispossession Speaker Pelosi from the mix. According to Boehner, the House is now ready to be about the “People’s Business”. I doubt it. Some sixty (60) House seats changed color for the Republican party, giving them functional control of the American House of Representatives. Committee leadership will change in January. Boehner and Eric Cantor say that their first order of business is the Repeal of the President’s Health care Initiative. Rolling back taxes, eliminating oversite through regulations, and returning to the 2008 spending limits of the Bush-era. If that is the first order of business, what on earth will the second order of business be?
Sorry, I forgot. The first order of business is ALWAYS making certain that President Obama fails.
Let’s not forget that there were no spending limits under Bush in 2008. Let’s not forget that the Bush-era gave us the economic collapse of our country, and very nearly the complete economic collapse of the world. Let’s not forget that it was the Bush-era that eliminated the middle class from the American landscape. Let’s not forget that we were, as a nation, seemingly determined to waste the blood of an entire generation on foreign soil because one man had a case of the ass against a despotic dictator who knew how to keep up control and peace in the Middle East. Let’s not forget that, in 2008, the ONLY primary goal of the American Government was to turn our nation into a completely Corporatist society.
Let’s also not forget that, for the first time in American History, a tax cut brought relief to the majority of the American People. Let’s not forget that, since 2008, more than 100,000 of our heroes are home. Let’s not forget that it is now possible for those who cannot afford healthcare can receive the vital health services they so desperately need, yet cannot afford. Let’s not forget that, since 2008, the United States has survived in spite of the overwhelming criminal activity of Wall Street, and their non-existent regulation. Bush raided the Treasury in 2008 publicly, but he had pilfered the til for 8 years. Let’s not forget that we KNEW who the culprit was in 2008. Americans, as a group, threw that culprit to the curb. It was left to us, the American people, to clean up the mess after they retired to their collective nests.
The constituencies are obviously different between the American political parties. Working against the American people is not approved political activity. Now, more than ever, this election shows us that the American people are not being addressed. Their concerns are still lingering, mostly unresolved. If it is ideology that brings the stumbling block, it has no place in the carrying on of the people’s business! We are not interested in continuing the political battles, rehashing accusations, or spot-point sniper fire between political groups.
Civility, and honest discourse are needed for the good of the people. The leadership of both political parties had better clearly understand that. Lying to the people for election has, yet once again, proven the day. Apathy and ignorance among the populace is rampant. It is OUR responsibility to know the facts, and call any person who misstates them. Special interests have no place in this point of American History, and anyone who attempts to prove otherwise should be immediately removed from the scenario.
We are not in economic security in America. The emergency situation that saw George Bush leave D. C. , with the very future survival of our nation was more than at risk is not over. We stemmed the avalanche of financial buffoonery, but we have not stopped the problem, and we continue to slide–just not as fast. That’s not because of a lack or disinterest in the problem. That is because, no matter how much money we throw at the problem, it is not enough. We are still losing businesses to overseas concerns, not because the costs of providing quality products, goods and services are prohibitive. This is still occurring because the cost of labor is so much cheaper in Mexico and China, adding profit to the bottom line while charging the customers (or the American people) for the privilege. Our homeless rate is still on the increase. I must honestly state that this fact bothers me a lot more than the fact that business entities must now provide healthcare for their employees. That providing healthcare affects the corporate bottom line is not an emergent situation, and is no plausible reason to move your manufacturing operations to West Bubblegum, where no such need exists.
The results of the midterm elections will not be truly known for a while yet. The rhetoric I’m hearing, especially from the likes of gloating victors about “taking America back” makes me physically ill. To them, our nation is but a spoil of war, with no regard to the care and stewardship such “possession” requires. Likewise, it is too early to check the effectiveness, or cost, or benefit of the new Healthcare plan. I wish people would take a care about things of common sense. What possible reason could be given, for instance, for keeping “DADT”?
The victim of this election is common sense. Americans felt that the government was overreaching into their privacy, yet continue to ignore the real and very present dangers confronting us as a nation, that required that overreach to save the Union. We see private sector job growth. Our economy is very, very weak, but stable. Which matters more? Find out the truth, and call those who would represent you out when they lie. Require the immediate death of personal and negative attacks during the campaign cycles. Prohibit unaccounted campaign funds. America must survive, and it does not need political pandering to do so. It is still a very real possibility that the tenuous economic stability the President and others have created will disappear, and the economy tank. We do not need corporate entities gaining new, foreign addresses. We need American jobs right here at home. Unless, or until that happens, there will be no peace in America.
The political noise of this campaign season has deafened me. I’d love to see those elected to lead us do so with us in mind, instead of themselves and their own private agendas. I strongly doubt it. Barack Obama is neither the enemy nor the reason we are where we are in America today. We are, through our indifference, our unwillingness to become informed and active in the process. There is no person that will change that except the person you see in the mirror. Until that’s fixed, no choice will truly matter. And it will remain as it has been, a public circus.
I’m not a fan of peanuts, or those who throw them.
